Ground breaking for SCI Pine Grove occurred May 11, 1998, as part of an administrative initiative to provide the Young Adult Offender population their own Institution. The entire Young Adult Offender Program (YAOP) is run as a therapeutic community providing this unique population the opportunity to mature in a nurturing environment. SCI Pine Grove was officially dedicated on February 23, 2001. The first inmates began arriving January 9, 2001. Number of Acres Inside Perimeter: 29.5 Number of Acres Outside Perimeter: 82.5 Number of Operational Structures (inside and outside of perimeter): 19 Number of Housing Units: 8 Two of our Housing Units consist of both cell and dormitory-style housing.
